Annual Our Lady of Lourdes Labor Day Festival

Our Lady of Lourdes Church to Hold Labor Day Festival, September 1st

On Monday, September 1, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will present its 28th annual Labor Day Festival. For 28 years, the church has been bringing the community together with its popular festival, which is like a really big family picnic with over 10,000 of your closest friends and relatives. Moms and dads can enjoy playing a variety of 30 games and winning prizes with their children. The tradition is to provide each player with a prize for playing.

There will be plenty of food, including some of the best barbecue, ribs, chicken, turkey legs, and sweets you’ll ever taste!

Guests will find some extraordinary bargains in the gigantic trash-n-treasure sale and will enjoy shopping at the country store and over 50 arts-n-crafts booths, as well as bidding on numerous items in the silent auction. Also, the Coca-Cola Stage will feature some of the finest singers, dancers and musicians from the Birmingham area.

Some of the many booths include: cake booth, toy booth, moonwalk, kiddie games, and paint guns. Rides include: bungee jumping, train, swings and the “Frog Hopper”! Raffle prizes are: 1st - $1,000 shopping spree; 2nd - $500 shopping spree; 3rd - “A Taste of Birmingham” (includes dinner certificates from several area restaurants), and 4th – A “Staycation” in Birmingham.

Guests can give a pint of blood at the Life South Community Blood Bank’s mobile unit. The parish is proud to report that more than 300 pints of blood have been collected over the last eight years.

Proceeds from the festival are used to support the ongoing operation of the parish and its community-oriented ministries and programs. The church will be tithing a portion of the net proceeds to the Birmingham Optimist Youth Foundation (a 501(c)3 corporation) to support the Optimist Club of Birmingham’s Kards for Kids Christmas gift card program to benefit foster teens in Jefferson County. Representatives from Gateway and from the Alabama Foster and Adoptive Parent Association (AFAPA) will also be on hand to help raise awareness about the need for foster and adoptive parents, especially for teenagers.

To kick off the festival, the church will be sponsoring a free dance on Sunday, August 31, 6:00 – 9:00 pm, in the Family Life Center. BBQ sandwiches and chips will be available for purchase.

Everyone is invited to join in the festivities! Our Lady of Lourdes is located at 980 Huffman Road, Birmingham and is accessible via Parkway East or Huffman Road. The church’s phone number is 205-836-2274. See more information at https://www.facebook.com/OLL.LaborDay.
