Community Connections – Gateway’s Primary Prevention Program
Breaking The Cycle Of Violence - Violence affects more than one-half of the homes in America. That means more than one-half of our children grow up experiencing or witnessing violence. This program strives to break the cycle by teaching elementary and middle-school youth conflict resolution, anger management and other essential skills in a classroom setting.
Reach Out To Children (ROTC) - This program reaches out to the vulnerable children of substance abusing parents, offering them help with coping, self-esteem, safety and communication. ROTC helps them identify the adults on which they can rely and teaches them how to build strong, supportive relationships on which they can depend.
Families and Schools Together (FAST) - Many parents aren't sure exactly how to become involved in their children’s education. The Families and Schools Together program is designed to encourage and enhance parental involvement in education and accomplishes this through special events, parent support groups and parent skills education classes.
Building Self Esteem In Students and Teens (BEST) - The BEST program focuses on helping at-risk children feel good about themselves. Through school-based summer camp programs, the program strives to encourage children by teaching safety, good decision-making, substance abuse prevention and more.
Parenting Support Groups - These sessions are ideal for groups including grandparents parenting their grandchildren, single parents, and parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They are held in many locations, including schools, community centers and churches, making them accessible and convenient.
Tobacco Free - Many children and adults smoke or are exposed to secondhand smoke daily. Tobacco Free educates children and adults on the numerous negative health effects of smoking and secondhand smoke. The program is designed to empower and train youth to become tobacco free community advocates.
