Jim Loop has served as Gateway’s President and CEO for the past 13 years, and has overseen some big changes in the agency. During his tenure, Gateway changed its name (from Family and Child Services), moved its administrative offices from the Airport Highway Campus to a then newly purchased building on Southside, and expanded programming to Huntsville and Mobile.
Jim has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He has been in the social work field for nearly 38 years, in a range of positions from child protective services worker and program and policy specialist for the Department of Human Resources to Associate Director of Glenwood and CEO of Gateway.
He has been married for 31 years to Jeannie Duke, Social Work Professor at the University of Montevallo; and they have one son, Brendan, who will soon be graduating from the University of Alabama.
"I am passionate about Gateway as it has consistently helped children and families past the barriers and difficulties that life throws in their way. This has been accomplished for over 120 years through a variety of programs and dedicated staff that pay more than lip service to the agency’s mission of preserving, strengthening and enriching family life."
