At an intimate dinner at Veranda on Highland, Jim Loop was surprised when the Dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama presented him with a copy of a Resolution by the Board of Trustees, establishing the Jim Loop Children's Endowed Scholarship. Joining Jim and his wife, Jeannie Duke at the Chef's Table were Cindy Roff, Dean of the School of Social Work and her husband, Dr. David Klemack; Steve Alby, Chairman of Gateway’s Board of Directors and his wife Cay; Tony Walker, a long-time friend; and Deidra K. Lloyd, Director of Advancement, the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama.

Funds for the endowment were made by a close friend to honor Jim for his years of service and leadership inresponding to the needs of families and children, the profession of social work, and the community. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist in the preparation of individuals who wish to become social workers at the University of Alabama School of Social Work. When awarding the scholarship, priority consideration will be given to students who have been raised in foster homes or residential care and whose career plans include a strong emphasison advocacy for children and families.
