Magic City Acceptance Project

Around 25 people gathered in a room at the Gateway building in Birmingham on Friday, May 2nd to hear from representatives from the "Magic City Acceptance Project," who discussed youths in the LGBTQ community.

Lula Skowronek of Gateway gave the presentation with Crisis Center coordinator Aryn Gieger as part of a meeting of the Children's Policy Council in Birmingham.

"Magic City Acceptance Project" is an effort by local volunteers to help troubled LGBTQ youths who have experienced family or peer rejection.

The presentation addressed issues of depression, drug use and juvenile delinquency that the speakers said can result from rejection by family and peers, as well as LGBTQ-related terms and what they mean.
