Melissa Sumners has worked for Gateway a little over two and a half years. She is currently a Team Leader and Outpatient Therapist with Gateway's Shelby County WRAP Program. Melissa completed an internship at Gateway for the WRAP/Outpatient in 2010 and then went on to work in Gateway's Therapeutic Foster Care Program for a year.
Melissa says that Gateway has provided her with a great knowledge base of the social work field. She enjoys helping people develop ways to help themselves whether that be through advocacy, empowerment, coping skills, etc. What she likes most about working at Gateway is the great support from clinical team and the fact that her co-workers are so supportive and are willing to work as a team when needed.
Some of her favorite memories about working for Gateway are when she received proclamations from the cities of Alabaster and Pelham in recognition of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month (April 2014) and when Shelby WRAP received a generous $30,000 grant from the Children's Trust Fund of Alabama!
Melissa likes to spend time with friends and lead an active lifestyle. She enjoys hiking, running and other workouts and is about to start training for a half-marathon!
Go Melissa! We are so glad to have you be a part of our Gateway team!!!
