Residential Program - A therapeutic treatment center for adolescents ages 12 through 18, Gateway offers a refuge and rebuilding time for children with severe emotional problems, often as a result of abuse or neglect. While at Gateway, residents are involved in counseling, school, therapeutic activities and other programs designed to help each child recover and readjust.

Rebuilding Families - Stays at Gateway generally range from six months to one year. During this time, residents and their families

  • participate in treatment programs designed specifically for each child and family by a multidisciplinary team.
  • focus on their strengths and the skills needed to live as a family and a part of the community.
  • work on building significant relationships with others.
  • participate in individual, group and family therapy.
  • learn independent living skills.

Rushton School - Rushton School is located on the campus of Gateway’s Residential Program and licensed by the State of Alabama Department of Education. Rushton School meets the educational and emotional needs of children through a team-oriented treatment approach. Students are assigned therapists who work with the family and the child simultaneously during placement. Therapeutic recreation, counseling, field trips and group work are also included in daily treatment activities.

Rushton School specializes in

  • helping academically challenged teenagers who cannot perform well in a regular school setting.
  • providing services to a diverse population of young people who need help with behavioral management skills in order to reach their correct grade levels.
  • helping young people return and adjust to a public school setting following placement.
  • providing academics from levels K – 12, testing to identify areas requiring focus and professional assistance in re-learning appropriate behaviors for returning to the community.
