Shelby County Wraparound Services - In many cases, families who are at risk of having children removed from the home can be held together safely through “wrapping” services around them. The following services are available to referrals from the Shelby County Department of Human Resources:

  1. Case Management Services - Designing and implementing specific intervention services
  2. Educational and/or Vocational Services - Assessing, arranging, and participating in educational and/or vocational opportunities.
  3. Family, individual, or group counseling - provided directly or by referral - Intervention based on a treatment plan involving a child, his/her family and/or significant others, and a counseling professional. Treatment is designed to maximize strengths and coping skills and to reduce behavior problems that interfere with personal, familial, vocational, and/or community adjustment. The services will be provided at the site that best meets the family's needs.
  4. In Home Family Support and Parent Education Services - Services to help rehabilitate and strengthen the family's ability to provide a safe, nurturing home environment for the child. Services which provide families with instruction, modeling, and support: being responsive, stimulating their children, providing safe limits, maintaining good health, and offering developmentally appropriate routines, interventions, etc.
  5. Mentoring Services - provided directly or through referral-Services to teach behavior and anger management, giving direct feedback to the child on the impact of his/her behavior, helping the child learn what specifically triggers his/her behavior problems and alternative ways to respond. Services may be provided in a variety of settings, including the child's home, school, or job site.
  6. Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment Services - provided directly or through referral - A combination of time-limited, goal oriented treatment services designed to assist clients in reaching and maintaining a drug and alcohol free lifestyle.
  7. Assistance with Housing, Emergency Food, Transportation and other Basic Needs - Services to assist families in locating safe affordable housing and advocating on the family's behalf with utility companies, housing authorities or other agencies to obtain housing, assistance in accessing emergency food, clothing, home furnishings, etc.
  8. Assistance with Accessing Appropriate Medical Services -Assisting in identifying medical needs, obtaining appropriate care, and monitoring usage and follow through.
  9. Recreational Services -Assistance to families in encouraging and securing appropriate recreational activities for family members. Teaching and supporting the use of appropriate leisure time and encouraging family activities.
  10. Job Preparation and Independent Living Support Services -Intervention based on a case plan with young people to learn basic living skills necessary to function independently.
  11. Budgeting and Money Management - Teaching and assisting in the learning of general household, financial, and time management.
  12. Sexual Abuse Treatment -Therapy to support the healing of victims of sexual abuse, either directly or through referral.
  13. Domestic Violence Intervention - Assessment of safety issues in the family. Therapeutic intervention provided either directly or through referral.
  14. Linkage with Community Service Providers and Resources – Assistance in identifying and accessing service providers and resources in the community.
  15. Specialized Reunification Support - Involving child, parent, foster parent, and other caregivers or providers.
  16. Respite Service – Provided indirectly through referral.
