    Shelby County's school safety plan includes counseling, other services for at-risk students... Shelby County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicles line part of the parking lot at Alabaster's Thompson Middle School on July 14, 2014, for a training program focusing on situations involving active shooters. Sheriff's deputies and the city's police officers are receiving training under the program.

  • Domestic Violence in the News

    We know that the month of October is traditionally set aside to raise awareness about domestic violence and prevention.  However, recently there have been many articles in the news concerning Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens and domestic violence arrests and deaths in our area. Many people have said that Ray Rice got a slap on the wrist when he was ordered to a Batterer Intervention Program after his incident with his then fiancĂ©.
